比べるものをそろえる（that of / those of）
着眼点than の後ろに来る名詞が、前の名詞と同じ種類かを確認する。
前の名詞の繰り返しを避けて、単数は that of、複数は those of を使う。

注意× …larger than Osaka. は「東京の人口」と「大阪（という都市）」を比べてしまい誤り。
