If S 過去形, S would/could/might 原形.

2 If he were here, he could help us.

If I ( ) a bird, I ( ) fly to you.(be / can)
答え were / could。
着眼点 if節は had+過去分詞、主節は would have+過去分詞。

If I ( ) harder then, I ( ) a better job now.(work / have)
答え had worked / would have。
形の変化 必須 if の省略と倒置(Were / Had / Should) 着眼点 if を省くと、were / had / should が文頭に出る。

If S should 原形, S will/would/命令文… If S were to 原形, S would 原形.
例文
1 If you should see him, please give him this note.

Take a taxi; ( ) you will be late.
(I wonder if you could ~)
1 I was wondering if you could lend me your pen.
Could you ~?
🚫

ポイント a few / a little は「少しはある」で肯定。
I can't hardly hear you.
答え can't → can。
表現 意味 never … without ~ing 〜せずに… It is no use ~ing 〜しても無駄だ There is no ~ing 〜することはできない not … until ~ 〜して初めて…

答え no knowing。There is no ~ing。
Do you like tea? Yes, I do. / No, I don't. 疑問詞疑問 Where do you live? Do you like tea or coffee? Don't you like tea? 好きなら Yes, I do. 嫌いなら No, I don't.
例文
1 Don't you want to go? — Yes, I do.
× Who did write? と × Who does write?
Aren't you tired? ( ), I'm not.
答え No。

Open the window, ( )?
答え will you。
Where does he live? → I know where he lives . (Is it true? → I wonder if it is true .)。 (Where do you think he lives? )。
例文
1 Do you know what time it is ?
2 What do you think he wants?
3 I don't know whether she will come (or not).
Do you think he will come?。
Do you know where does she live?
答え does she live → she lives。
直接 間接(過去の伝達動詞のとき) 現在形 過去形 現在完了・過去形 過去完了 will / can would / could now then today / tonight that day / that night yesterday the day before / the previous day tomorrow the next day / the following day here / this there / that

3 He said to me, "Close the door." → He told me to close the door.
ポイント 疑問文: say to → ask、Yes/Noなら if / whether。命令文: say to → tell / order など+人+to不定詞。
(He said that the earth goes around the sun.)。
She said, "I will call you tomorrow."
答え She said that she would call me the next day. will→would、tomorrow→the next day、I→she、you→me。
(Where was he now? He did not know.)。二重否定: not … without / no … but(例: There is no rule but has some exceptions.)。
例文
1 There is no rule but has exceptions.
Never / Hardly / Not only / Little / Seldom
文頭の語句 倒置の後の形 Never / Seldom / Rarely / Little 助動詞+S+V Hardly(Scarcely)… when(before)~ Hardly had S p.p. when S 過去形 No sooner … than ~ No sooner had S p.p. than S 過去形 Not only A but (also) B Not only does S V, but S also V Only +副詞(句・節) Only then did S V
例文
1 Never have I seen such a beautiful sunset.
2 Hardly had she sat down when the phone rang.
3 Only then did I realize my mistake.
注意 一般動詞の文は do / does / did を補う(Little did he know…)。
(never / I / have / such a thing / heard)文頭は Never。
答え Never have I heard such a thing.
1 I like tennis. — So do I .
2 He can't swim. — Neither can I .
3 She has finished the work, and so have we .
注意 So I do. So do I(私も)と混同しない。
I didn't go." "( ) ( ) I."
答え Neither did。
(Here comes / On the hill stood …)
1 On the hill stood an old castle.
(Here it comes.
3 Happy are those who are content with little.
ポイント 否定でない副詞句(In the box was …)
(stood / a small house / by the river)文頭は By the river。
答え By the river stood a small house.
人は who 、物は which 、時・場所は when / where も可だが、that がすべてに使える。
1 It was Tom that broke the window yesterday.
2 It was the window that Tom broke yesterday.
3 It was yesterday that Tom broke the window.
(It is true that he left.)
He met her at the station. → 下線部 at the station を強調。
答え It was at the station that he met her.
not … until は It is not until … that ~ の型。
例文
1 What was it that made her so angry?
2 It was not until midnight that he came home.
What on earth / in the world =「いったい」も同じ強調。It was not until 〜 that の that 以下は肯定文の語順になる。
She did not notice the error until the next day. → It ( ) ( ) ( ) the next day ( ) she noticed the error.
答え was not until / that。
1 I do want to see you again.
2 He did come to the party, but he left early.
3 She is the very person I was looking for.
語句の強調には very / own / ever / on earth / at all なども使う(What on earth are you doing?)。
She ( ) look happy.(本当に幸せそうに見えた)
答え did。
when / while / if / though / unless などの節 + 分詞・形容詞・前置詞句 は、「S+be」が省略されている。 (He likes tea and she coffee.)、that / 目的格関係詞の省略も同じ考え方。
例文
1 While in Paris , I visited the Louvre.
(While I was in Paris)
2 If possible , please reply today.
(If it is possible)
3 Tom likes tea, and Mary, coffee.
(Mary likes coffee)
× While waiting for the bus, it began to rain.
Though poor, he was happy.
答え Though he was poor。
名詞 of +名詞/動名詞 the city of Kyoto / the habit of getting up early 名詞+that節(同格のthat) the fact that he lied / the news that she won
例文
1 Mr. Brown, our English teacher , is from Canada.
2 I heard the news that our team had won the game.
The fact that he told me surprised me.
I think / I believe / I am sure / you know / what is more / in my opinion 、関係代名詞の直後の SV(先行詞の説明)。
例文
1 The man who I thought was honest deceived us.
(who は was の主語。I thought が挿入)
2 This is a book, I am sure , you will enjoy.
The girl who I think is the best singer won.
答え who ( I think ) is the best singer。who が is の主語。
1 Young as he is, he is very wise.

Wait here ( ) I come back.
必須 for / during / while、within / in 着眼点 for+期間の長さ、during+特定の期間を表す名詞。
