(5) 最後の空所
【元の問題文】
次の英文は、中学生のソウタ(Sota)と留学生のエマ(Emma)の対話の一部である。また、図はソウタが全校生徒に調査して作ったグラフである。
Emma:Sota, what is this graph?
Sota:It shows how students in our school come to school. I asked all the students.
Emma:How 1 to school, Sota?
Sota:I come by bike every day. It takes about fifteen minutes.
Emma:Coming by bike is the most popular, right?
Sota:Yes. 3 students come to school by bike than on foot.
Emma:I see. And walking is more popular than taking the bus.
Sota:That's right. Also, coming by car is as popular as coming by train.
Emma:Why do some students come by car?
Sota:Their houses are far from school, and there aren't many buses. But cars *produce a lot of *CO2. I'm worried about the *environment.
Emma:In my town in Germany, people do something about that. Three or four families *take turns driving their children to school. One car carries four or five children.
Sota:That sounds nice. It can reduce the number of cars on the road.
Emma:Also, many people in my town ride bikes. The town has special roads only for bikes, so it is safe to ride.
Sota:That's great. In Japan, some roads are too narrow for bikes.
Emma:If more students come by bike or on foot, we can help the environment.
Sota:I agree. Choosing how to get to school is something we can do every day.
Emma:What will you say in your presentation?
Sota:I'll tell my classmates that 5.
Emma:Great. Then many students will start to think about the environment.
〔注〕*produce=〜を出す *CO2=二酸化炭素 *environment=環境 *take turns 〜ing=交代で〜する
